It's not just something that they use when you go to the spa.
Upselling can significantly boost revenue and enhance the overall experience for clients at any business, including your doggie daycare. By offering additional services or products that complement your core offerings, you can increase customer satisfaction and maximize your business's revenue. The best thing about upselling is that you don't need to find new clients, you can earn more revenue off your existing ones. Nice!
In today's blog post, I'm going to go highlight five different ways you can upsell at your dog daycare or boarding facility. Let's roll!
1. Offer Premium Packages
Create premium packages that include a range of additional services at a discounted rate. For instance, you might offer a âDeluxe Daycare Packageâ that includes extended playtime, grooming services, and a special treat for the dog. Make sure to point out that each service by itself would cost more than the entire package itself. This way, it shows your clients that they are getting a deal by buying the entire package, instead of buying each additional service separately. Packaging these services together not only provides added value but also encourages clients to invest in a more comprehensive experience for their pets, and
people love spoiling their pets. Promote these packages to existing clients by highlighting the benefits of the extras included and the cost savings compared to purchasing each service individually.
Don't get pushy when you're upselling, but you want to make sure you are highlighting the benefits for the client. You can also create introductory offers for new clients to experience the benefits of your premium packages.
2. Introduce Add-On Services
Incorporate add-on services that clients can easily include in their dogâs daily routine. Options might include extra play sessions, one-on-one training, or special enrichment activities like agility courses or scent games. If you're not offering the peanut butter kong treat, then you're missing out on an easy $5 or $10 extra per day per pet. Money in the bank! Make these add-ons easy to request and clearly communicate the benefits to pet owners. Add-ons are a great way to
boost your revenue without having to find a new client. When clients book daycare services, offer these add-ons as options during the scheduling process. Trust us, an extra nail clipping here and exit bath there can really help boost your monthly revenue.
3. Promote Seasonal and Themed Events
Organize seasonal or themed events and use them as opportunities for upselling. For instance, during holidays, you could offer special photo sessions, themed playdates, or festive grooming packages. People love cute holiday pet pictures. Why not set up a holiday pet picture party where you hire a local photographer to come in and then all your clients can come in
wearing holiday sweaters for a picture session. These pictures NEED to be watermarked with your daycare name so that when they're posted on Facebook and Insta, people see your logo and check out your business. Promote these events through your website, social media, and in-house materials. Encourage clients to book these special services in advance and offer exclusive discounts or bonuses for early reservations. Seasonal events not only attract additional business but also create a fun and engaging atmosphere that keeps clients coming back.
4. Sell Quality Pet Products
Leverage your daycareâs physical location to offer
high-quality pet products such as toys, treats, and grooming supplies. Create a small retail area where clients can purchase these items while dropping off or picking up their dogs. Ensure that the products you offer are of high quality and align with your daycareâs brand and values. Think about adding an area where you sell dental bones, some fun toys, some good organic dog treats, and anything else that comes to mind. Train your staff to suggest relevant products based on clientsâ needs. For example, if a dog frequently experiences skin issues, recommend a specific type of shampoo or skin-soothing treat. Don't be too pushy on the sales though. No one wants to feel like they're getting forced into buying something. Let them decide to buy the dental bone themselves. They don't need to be forced.
5. Implement a Loyalty Program
If you haven't already, consider
adding a loyalty program to encourage repeat business and upsell opportunities. Everyones loves a good points system where they get a certain amount of points per action, be it daycare days, overnight boardings, etc. Offer points or rewards for each purchase or service, which clients can redeem for discounts, free services, or special perks. For example, after a certain number of daycare visits, clients could receive a complimentary grooming session or a discount on premium packages. Promote the loyalty program to clients as a way to get more value from their regular visits. Make sure that you're regularity updating your clients on their current points total, so that it might encourage them to come in for one extra day of daycare in order to get the free exit bath, for example.
