Business: Sneary's Grooming

Owner: Angel Sneary

What made you decide to start your business?

I opened my business to help those with limited income to get grooming for their pets at reasonable prices. I had been grooming my friends' and my own pets for 18 years so why not get paid for doing something I like to do. I am a animal lover and hate to see people not being able to get the care for their pets because it's too expensive.

Did you have any experience in the industry before starting your business?

The only experience I have in pet grooming is doing friends' and my own pets. I did work at a vet's office and went to school to be a vet technician. But unfortunately I didn't graduate due to health problems.

What's your favorite part of running your business? What about the most difficult?

My favorite thing about running my own business is the flexible schedule and seeing all the different pets. The most difficult is dealing with aggressive or hyper pets.

When you're not running your business, how do you enjoy spending your time?

When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with my personal pets. Also I enjoy studying up on different things to do with my business.

How long have you been using DoggieDashboard to manage your business?

I've been using DoggieDashboard since August of 2017. It is a great program and has a lot of features that I use on a daily basis. I can keep all my information in one place. This program has a great free program that has many features that you can use to get started. Patrick, the owner, is very alert to his program and when I was logging into the demo version instead of my account, he helped me out making sure I had everything in the right spot. If I have any questions he tries to help.

Any advice you'd like to give to people considering starting a pet care business?

I would tell people thinking about opening their own business to do research on all aspects of the business. There're also a lot of places you can advertise on. Once you start you will get swamped with offers for everything, so make sure you don't get scammed*, etc. The last thing is make sure you get all of your licenses for state, federal, city, and even county.

*Editor's Note: This is a very real issue for many new small business owners. In the United States, when you register your business LLC, you're going to start getting tens, if not hundreds, of telemarketer calls. This is because your business registration is public information, so once it's added to your state's business database, it's free game for telemarketers. Please consider adding yourself to the Do Not Call List so you can avoid these time-wasting calls.
