4 Social Media Marketing Tips for Dog Daycares & Boarders

When you're the owner of a doggie daycare, sometimes it seems like there isn't enough time in the day. If you're not dealing with check-in and check-out, you're on the phone calling people for missed appointments.

Believe me, I can totally understand. As the programmer and owner of DoggieDashboard, I spend the majority of my time writing code and answering emails. However, having a social media presence is definitely important in today's media-saavy age.

In order to get you started on the right foot, here are four simple social media tips that you can start using to market your doggie daycare today.

1. Make it a Point to Publish at Least Once Per Week

One of the hardest parts of social media marketing is getting into a publishing routine. However, having a somewhat rigid publishing schedule will help your dog boarding business receive more clicks and interaction within your follower news feeds. Why? Well, it's all about Facebook's algorithm. Though they don't publish much information about it, most social media algorithms follow a similar pattern: the more you publish, the more often you'll get featured in someone's newsfeed. If your business publishes, why would Facebook want to show your page in someone's newsfeed. Use a tool like Hootsuite to schedule your posts weeks in advance. That way, you can sit back and relax and know that you're still feeding the FB algorithm.

2. Start a Pet-of-the-Month Club to Generate Fun Content

If you're having a hard time figuring out what type of content you want to publish, one of the easiest things you can do is start looking at what you have a lot of (pets) and how you can use them to generate marketing content for your dog sitting business. First, clear it with your pet parents, and then ask them if you can feature their pet in your pet-of-the-month club. You can post a nice picture, and have their owner write up a little bio about the pet and maybe a funny anecdote. Simple things like these get tons of Likes and Shares and will help increase your Facebook marketing presence.

3. Take Photos Throughout the Day and Upload Them to Facebook

If you're familiar with the fitness industry at all, especially CrossFit, you've probably realized that they're the kings of social media marketing. How do they do it? Simple, take pictures of people working out and post them on their Facebook newsfeed. People love a nice picture getting posted of them online. This same idea works for pets. Make it a point to take 3-5 pet pictures per day at your doggie daycare. Take pictures of pets playing together, rough housing, whatever. Then, tag the pet owners in the pictures. You'll have happy pet owners commenting on your pictures and you'll be getting more Shares from the friends of your pet owners.

4. Post Class Schedules and Pet-Owner Tips to Increase User Interaction

Last but not least, if you're really struggling to put together a social media marketing plan for your pet daycare, you can always fall back on posting class schedules and basic pet tips for your clients. If you're an active trainer, you'll get some nice user interaction from posting schedules. The more people that comment on a post, the longer it stays relevant in the Facebook stratosphere. The longer it stays relevant, the more eye traffic your page will get.
