5 Unique Social Media Strategies for Dog Daycares

Social media offers a fantastic platform for dog daycares to engage with pet owners, showcase their services, and build a loyal community. You have hundreds of local pet owners at your fingertips. It's just a matter of reaching out to them. If your business doesn't have an active social media presence, you're not the only one. So many small businesses aren't taking advantage of the free benefits of social media marketing. However, to stand out in a crowded digital space, it's important to employ unique strategies that capture attention and foster connections. Let's dive into today's blog post. I'm going to talk about five cool social media strategies that might help your dog daycare and boarding kennel get some new clients.

1. Feature “Dog of the Week” Spotlights

Creating a “Dog of the Week” spotlight is an engaging way to showcase the dogs in your care and personalize your social media content. Each week, select a different dog to feature and share their story, personality traits, and favorite activities. Ideally you'll have enough dogs where you can do one per week. Post adorable photos or videos of the featured dog enjoying their time at your daycare, along with fun facts and any special moments they’ve had. The pet owner is going to absolutely love it. They're definitely going to share your post on their page, thereby advertising your business to all their friends.

2. Host Interactive Contests and Challenges

Interactive contests and challenges can boost engagement and increase your visibility on social media. Host a photo contest where clients share pictures of their pets with a specific theme, such as “Best Playful Pup” or “Cutest Nap Time.” Offer prizes such as free daycare sessions or grooming services to encourage participation. This is an easy way to get participation with your content. If your content is getting posted but no one is interacting with it, that means your content isn't working. By having online contests, you're guaranteeing that people are going to be seeing your business's post and talking about your business. You can also create fun challenges, like a “Dog Trick Challenge,” where clients post videos of their dogs performing tricks. This not only encourages user-generated content but also fosters a sense of community among pet owners. Most of us will remember all the crazy TikTok challenges that happened during Covid. Those challenges are what made TikTok what it is today, so it goes without saying that people love participating in online challenges.

3. Create Educational and Entertaining Video Content

Video content is highly engaging and can effectively showcase the activities and care provided at your dog daycare. Produce short, entertaining videos that offer a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of your daycare. Include clips of playtime, training sessions, and interactions between staff and dogs. If you're a dog trainer or if your doggie daycare offers training, you can start posting a weekly dog training video where you give your followers a free dog training lesson. Obviously, the idea is to attract them to contact you for another paid lesson, but just offer the free lesson is going to make them appreciate your business. Additionally, create educational content addressing common dog care topics, such as training tips, health advice, or grooming techniques.

4. Collaborate with Local Influencers and Pet Bloggers

Partnering with local pet influencers or bloggers can expand your reach and introduce your dog daycare to new audiences. Identify influencers or bloggers with a strong following in your area and collaborate on promotional posts, reviews, or sponsored content. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of partnering with influencers. I find them rather disgusting to be honest. However, if you have a local influencer that is a pet owner, it might be worth offering them some free services in exchange for a post or good word about your business. Their opinions can hold a lot of weight, unfortunately. Offer them a complimentary daycare session or other perks in exchange for featuring your facility on their social media channels.

5. Utilize Social Media Stories and Live Streams

Social media stories and live streams are excellent tools for creating real-time engagement and showcasing the dynamic environment of your dog daycare. Use stories to share daily highlights, behind-the-scenes moments, and quick updates about events or special offers. Live streams can be used for interactive sessions, such as Q&A with the staff, live tours of your facility, or live broadcasts of playtime activities. Make it a point to do a daily live stream where you walk around your outdoor play area during play time and commentate on all the dogs playing. Your clients are going to be watching in order to glimpse their fur baby, and those watches are going to help boost your business's social media following. Nice!
